Downed Power Lines

In the event of any storm or natural disaster, always STAY AWAY from downed power lines. All downed lines should be treated as if they were energized and potentially deadly. If you see a downed line, call Horry Electric immediately at 843-369-2212.

If you’re trapped in your car with a fallen power line, DO NOT EXIT THE VEHICLE, as you could be electrocuted if the lines are still energized.

If you’re in danger and must exit your vehicle, open the car door, but do not step out. JUMP without touching any of the metal portions of the car’s exterior, and quickly get to safe ground.

Water is a conductor of electricity. By stepping out, your body makes the connection with the ground and the electricity will travel through you to reach the ground. Wait for emergency responders and follow their instructions.
